My, how quickly four years have passed. This November 2012, our nation will come together to choose the Commander and Chief, aka the President of the United States. In 2008, we witnessed the election of Barack Hussein Obama II, the first African American President and the 44th President of the United States. He spoke with vision and presented a plan for necessary change. We as a praying people, should be very concerned with the upcoming primaries for political election, and not just the end of the race for presidential election. We should take a vested interest in every branch and level of government – from the mayoral, gubernatorial, congressional and the Senate. The best quarter back requires an informed and supportive team to be productive.
Politics should polarize the Christian community. Even though the office of President represents the nation, God is still sovereign. We must not be separated by issues, race or class, but united in seeking God’s divine will for our nation. “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” – Matthew 6:10 (KJV). We must submit to the Holy Spirit in all areas of our lives, and that includes politics, legislation and voting.
There is an alarming shift of morality. Lawlessness is invading the land and disturbing the balance from local communities to world events. We’ve experienced turbulent weather conditions and natural disasters that require rapid fire decisions and prudence. We need a leader that is courageous enough to seek God for wisdom, clarity and direction. 14 and My people, who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land” – 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT).
We as Christians and citizens must pray for our great country. We no longer have the time to approach our obligations in ignorance. We need to pray fervently that God’s people are elected to key positions in government, begin now during the primaries and throughout the whole voting process. Please don’t say that all we can do is pray. Prayer is giving God the permission to interfere and intervene in the affairs of man. Can we use divine interference in our national, state, local and personal affairs? Read the newspapers and keep watch of the news and we should all shout an emphatic yes!
The political parties are about gaining power to push their agendas. Abraham Lincoln made it clear in his Gettysburg address, “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Instead our elected officials are being prostituted by the special interest groups, the rich and powerful. I know that we want educated leaders but those leaders should not forget why they were voted into the position. The hand writing on the wall is scripting disaster if we don’t implore God to intervene. “When the [uncompromisingly] righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked man rules, the people groan and sigh” – Proverbs 29:2 (AMP).
I entreat you to pray. Stay on your face like Moses and Aaron. Now is not the time to grant policy-making authority to a person just because they hired a savvy public relations team. Research the candidates, listen to their track record on issues and investigate who is funding the candidate? Have you noticed the systematic stifling of anything Christian, Godly or moral? Don’t Christians have first amendment rights granted by the Constitution of the United Stated of America? “Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins” – Isaiah 58:1 (ESV).
We must think critically and use Godly discernment to see through the deceit and propaganda of the future political commercials and mailings. We have ten months to pray that God will reveal the hearts of those seeking election. We have ten months to pray that a spirit of truth will influence the land. We have ten months to pray that we, God’s people, will do our civic duty and vote. The right to vote came with the cost of many lives. If we are not diligent, we could end up going back to Egypt.

God help us to seek Your face and prayer Your will for America! Lord Your word says that “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” - James 5:16b. We will declare Your righteousness, justice and truth. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
